About the Role
Ibotta is seeking a Security Engineer to help strengthen application security, cloud infrastructure security, vulnerability management, and secure software development practices across the organization.
This role focuses on protecting cloud-native environments, supporting secure software development, improving vulnerability management processes, and addressing emerging security challenges involving artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.
The ideal candidate combines technical security expertise with strong collaboration skills and enjoys working across engineering, infrastructure, and product teams to build secure systems at scale.
This position is based in Denver, Colorado and follows a hybrid work schedule with in-office collaboration three days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Application Security
- Conduct application security assessments and code reviews
- Perform penetration testing and vulnerability analysis
- Lead threat modeling exercises for new products and features
- Improve secure coding standards and developer security training
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts across engineering teams
Cloud & Infrastructure Security
- Design and maintain cloud security controls
- Implement runtime and container security protections
- Secure AWS and cloud-native environments
- Develop infrastructure security monitoring solutions
- Automate security checks using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
AI & Emerging Technology Security
- Evaluate security risks associated with AI-generated code
- Develop guardrails for AI and machine learning systems
- Monitor emerging threats such as prompt injection, model inversion, and data poisoning attacks
- Support secure AI development initiatives
Security Operations
- Enhance vulnerability management programs
- Support bug bounty initiatives
- Participate in incident response activities
- Contribute to security automation and tooling
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
Qualifications
Required
- 4+ years of experience in security engineering, application security, software development, or related fields
- Experience with Python, Go, Java, or similar programming languages
- Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of cloud security concepts
- Knowledge of AWS security services and Infrastructure as Code
- Understanding of CI/CD environments and secure development practices
- Familiarity with web application security and modern authentication methods
- Knowledge of OWASP Top 10 security risks
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Preferred
- Terraform experience
- Security certifications such as OSCP, GWAPT, eCPPT, eWPT, CompTIA SecAI+, or similar
- Experience building security automation tools
- Knowledge of networking security concepts
